How Does Credit Report Work?

Everything you need to understand credit is here on this page.

The credit bureau are the main companies that gather all your credit data and form a credit report based on your history. They have access to all your financial history and credit accounts in order to make a well rounded calculation of your credit score.

Each Credit Bureau

There are three major private companies that collect credit history: Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian. They all collect credit history in their own way, which may lead to different credit scores from each one.

Experian being the oldest, since it was founded in 1826 and Transunion being the newest founded 1968. They all have huge libraries of credit files and have credit profiles on each consumer with a credit score.

How Do They Gather Information

Equifax, Transunion and Experian collect data on millions of people around the world who maintain a credit history. They gather their information from banks, loan companies, retailers and other lenders. Not all the companies report to all of the credit bureaus. Some of them even report to only one or two.

In choosing a credit repair company, its important to chose one that dedicates its service, 24/7 to the customer and helps them along the way. Also they choose a company that has experience and more than sufficient knowledge on how to help people in need. Its important to research the company's reviews and merits.

Here’s a list of places where credit bureaus can get information:

1.)Mortgage lender

2.)Credit card companies

3.)Retailer

4.)Loan Companies

5.)Telecommunications companies

6.)Student loan companies

7.)Peer to peer lenders

8.)Collection agencies

9.)Courts

10.)Landlords

You cannot obtain credit report from:

1.)Small businesses

2.)Known acquaintances of yourself

3.)Utility companies

4.)Medical companies

Why your score might be different

Keep in mind that each credit bureau has their own process on how they collect credit history and data. Remember that each one of them will give you a different score and don’t be discouraged by one of them, since errors are prone to happen or that they missed an important credential point in your history that they didn’ collect.
